Summer Bucket List

We don't do a ton of travel throughout the year because we mostly save it up for summertime -- when the weather is good and the kids are out of school. Since Jonathan and I are both freelancers and entrepreneurs we get to take time off when we want to. Though there are days I think we really should both get real jobs, I am grateful that I can take days off and escape NYC. This year will be a longer stretch of time than we've done before. And my goal next year is even more ambitious—the whole summer for a cross country road trip! No matter what we do though, these are 50 essential components to a fun summer for me and my family:

  1. climb trees

  2. swim in the ocean

  3. take a road trip

  4. hike in the woods

  5. look at the stars

  6. collect shells, rocks, sticks

  7. watch fireflies

  8. go to the movies

  9. toast marshmallows/make s'mores

  10. go camping/sleep outside

  11. slow down

  12. play tag

  13. play hide and seek

  14. sing songs in the car

  15. play games (Bananagrams, Tenzi, Cards!)

  16. make crafts

  17. skinny dip

  18. go canoeing

  19. biking

  20. see an outdoor concert

  21. share meals with friends

  22. visit family

  23. practice yoga in the sun

  24. run barefoot in dewy grass

  25. swim in mountain lakes and rivers

  26. do cartwheels

  27. enjoy the view at the top of a peak

  28. write

  29. explore a new town/city/country

  30. visit a landmark (this year, Niagara Falls!)

  31. appreciate nature

  32. go on a roller coaster (Cedar Point, here we come!)

  33. sit by a fire

  34. read novels and inspirational books

  35. look at beautiful art

  36. play catch (baseball, football, frisbee)

  37. marco polo in the pool

  38. breathe

  39. tell stories

  40. lots of hugs

  41. sleep late

  42. get out of the city

  43. drink iced coffee

  44. get caught in the rain

  45. see a rainbow

  46. splash in puddles

  47. eat fresh picked berries

  48. make fruit pies

  49. ice cream!

  50. spend as much time outside as possible

My friend often says to me, “you have such and abundant life!” and part of me wants to say, “no we don't, we live in a one bedroom apartment and don't have a lot of money”, and then I take in what she says and I say, “Yes!”
